Arran, a pupil of 5H, noticed his dog behaving rather strangely. On looking closer Arran found a dead grass snake. A most unusual find!

South Parade’s Got Talent 2009

On the 2nd July eleven fantastic acts went through to the final of South Parade’s got Talent. The eleven acts were given the tremendous opportunity to present their performances in front of frriends and family. the acts were;

Triple act Fern, Ashley and Olivia.
Maura and Chloe who performed a wonderful puppet act
Lydia who perrformed a singing solo
Alison who gave an amazing solo performance
Chelsea who gave another fantastic solo performance
Fearless Georgia, Megan and Lauren.
Emily who gave a stunning performance as Amy Winehouse
Conor who performed a tremendous skipping routine
Molly a solo singing act
H and M featuring Jess
Sister Keys Beth and Katie ; our amazing pianists

Superb solo singing performances were also given by our guests Erica Leadbetter and Daniel Clift.

The eventual winners were The Triple Act. Second place was Chelsea and in third place came H and M featuring Jess.

A big thank you to everyone who took part -you were fantastic. A whopping well done to Mr Leadbetter who did did a fabulous job of arranging and organising the show.

PGL 2009

On Friday 27th March, 32 members of year 5 set of on their long journey to Caythorpe Hall in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

Everyone had been looking forward to the PGL trip for so long and now the moment had arrived.

The children had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including abseiling, climbing, kayaking, archery, shooting and quad biking.

Working as part of a team meant that everyone played a valuable part in the experience.

All children and staff agreed that the PGL experinece was excellent. Roll on 2010 and if you’re in year 4 – see you there!

South Parade School Science Day March 2009

A fun day was had by our whole school on Science Day. All the children,
from Nursery through to Year 6, took part in lots of exciting ‘hands on’
practical Science experiments and activities.
The children were ably assisted by the many parents, grandparents, other
family members and friends who came to see what we were up to!
t was an entertaining and educational day and was part of National
Science and Engineering Week. Thanks to everyone for helping and taking
part.

South Parade Wildlife Area

Mr Sowter and Eloise have added two newts [rescued from an allotment] to
our pond.
We are sure they will settle in nicely alongside the frogs. There’s loads
of frogspawn in evidence now!
Thanks again to Mr Sowter for all his hard work keeping the area so
attractive to the wildlife.

South Parade Primary School Official Opening

On Friday 27^th February we celebrated the opening of our new Primary School. Many important people joined us for this historic event, including, governors, parents, Austin Mitchell, M.P., Councillor Peter Barker, Councillor Margaret Cracknel (Portfolio holder for Children’s Services), Roger Edwardson (Deputy Director for Children’s Services), Neil Patience (Architect) aswell as representatives form Kelseys (the builders) and the Local Authority. However, by far the most important guest was Danny North who plays for Grimsby Town Football Club. Danny is an ex-pupil of South Parade. And we were all delighted that he cut the ribbon to declare our new school officially open.

The ceremony was watched by all 470 pupils of our school and in the usual South Parade fashion, even though the children were excited, behaviour was outstanding and remarked upon by many of the visitors. After the ceremony everyone enjoyed celebratory cakes.

We are delighted with the facilities the building work has provided. We now have a Primary School fit for the 21^st Century. For example, we have two ICT suites, a Food Technology Room, newly refurbished classrooms and library. Staff facilities have also improved and we have a large staffroom with working area, plus a Conference Room, which we use when meeting with parents and other agencies.

This all enables us to provide the very best learning environment for our children, as we believe that they deserve it!

The official opening is our way of saying thankyou to all concerned with making this happen, as well as celebrating the opening of our new Primary School.

Athletics Championship

On Wednesday 14^thJanuary 2009 12 children from years 5 and 6 went to Cleefields Sports hall to compete in an athletics championship. There was 1 lap, 2 lap and 4 lap running, javelin throw, chest pass, target throw, long jump, vertical jump and speed bounce.

The schools we were competing against were Laceby Stanford J&1, Laceby Acres, Scartho Juniors, Springfield, Nunsthorpe, William Barcroft, Old Clee, Signhills, Grange Juniors, Canon Peter Hall and St Peters.

Mr Franklin and Mrs Claassen came with us. We came 7^th out of 12 schools and we all tried our best to win. Mr Franklin was very proud of us because we only found out that we were going to compete five days before the competition and we didn’t have any time to train for it. The other schools had been training since September. It was hard work but great fun.

Aladdin

South Parade KS 2 boys and girls were treated to a fabulous performance of Aladdin at the Grimsby Auditorium.

Leading the cast in the title role was Lee Otway who finds a rusty old lamp and becomes master of ‘The Genie.’ The former Emmerdale star Peter Amory plays the evil Abanazar as he plans to steal the lamp from Aladdin. On hand to help Aladdin save the day is the Slave of the ring played by local starlet Zoe Belding .

Judging by the boys and girls enthusiastic responses to the ‘Goodies and Baddies’ they had a fantastic time and everyone looks forward to next years Pantomime performance.

THE NELMAs 2008

A big well done to Harriet , Demi and Abby following entry of a film into the digital video category of the 2008 North East lincs Media Association awards.

This category is for short films which should be creatively and technically engaging. Judging by the laughs the audience found the South Parade entry very entertaining.

The team were awarded ‘An Oscar’ for their entry which was presented by the Mayor Colin Eastwell. Mrs Hannah Moffat, of Look North Fame, was the compere for the evening.

This was a fabulous evening and I’m sure that we all look forward to the next years presentations.
